As chief executive, researcher, design architect, and entrepreneur, Dr. Nicky Lu has dedicated his
career to the worldwide IC design and semiconductor industry. He is the Founder and CEO of Etron
Technology, Inc., and has co-founded several other high-tech companies. He received his B.S. in
Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 1975 and M.S. and Ph.D. in EE from
Stanford University in 1978 and 1981, respectively. Dr. Lu worked for the IBM Research Division
and then the Headquarters from 1982 to 1990 and won numerous IBM recognition awards, including
an IBM Corporate Award. He holds over 24 U.S. patents and has published more than 50 technical
papers.
Dr. Lu was elected to be a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE),
awarded the IEEE Solid State Circuits Field Award, and Member of National Academy of
Engineering of USA. Since 1999, Dr. Lu has pioneered several Known-Good-Die Memory
products enabling customersˇ¦ stacked-die system chips. This trend summoned the new rise of an
IC Heterogeneous Integration era as described in his plenary talk in the International Solid-State
Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in 2004.
As a co-architect leading the 8-inch wafer and DRAM technology developments for Taiwanˇ¦s
semiconductor industry in early 1990s, Dr. Nicky Lu was awarded the National Medal of Excellence
in Science and Technology by the Premier of the Republic of China, Taiwan. He was elected to
be a follow of the Chinese Society for Management of Technology in 2004. He was selected to
be an ˇ§Outstanding Entrepreneurˇ¨ of R.O.C." by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, received an
honorable visit to the President, and was presented with the "Golden Merchant Award" by the
General Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of China. He was given the honor receiving
the "2010 ERSO Award" by Pan Wen Yuan Foundation to cite for his contribution to the Memory
IC Design Industry. He was honored to be an outstanding alumnus of Department of Electrical
Engineering, National Taiwan University. He was honored to be a chair professor and an outstanding
alumnus of the National Chiao Tung University.
Dr. Lu serves as Managing Board Director of the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association
(TSIA) and the Association of Allied Industries in the Hsinchu Science Park, respectively. He also
serves as Chairman of the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA, the former FSA).
